Hi, We are looking at using a Rail New Zealand FlexiPass to travel the South Island. It looks like I can get a 35 hour pass for about $558NZ for both of us. From what I can gather, this would save us over $1500 from booking the same route on an independent coach tour. I asked if they use the same bus line and they said they use Great Sights or Intercity or Newman. Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on insight into the benefits of booking through hotels, excursions and train and buses through a tour company vs booking the same schedule ourselves? Please help. Thanks! I didn't find the right suggestions from the Internet.
